The Engagement Program has been expertly designed to improve student attendance and participation in classroom activities and schoolwork. The program was developed in response to a growing number of students presenting with a disorder known as ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder), providing an alternative solution for schools to traditional disciplinary measures.
The Engagement Program consists of two sessions a week for eight weeks, consisting of one activity session and one mentoring session.
The program is designed to build rapport, create a safe place for students and focus on activities that bring youth at risk together, rather than separating them from their peers. Focusing on physical activity helps create resilience, mental health stimulation and confidence skills. Mentoring sessions focus on building rapport, assisting students in engaging in conversations to help build their resilience and following up after their activities to demonstrate care and compassion for circumstances.
The activity sessions include the following options:
- Yoga Class
- DJ-ing Class
The Engagement Program has been designed to incentivise students to remain involved, providing the motivation to model suitable behaviours in other aspects of their life, to ensure ongoing participation. Armed For Life works together with the school, teaching staff and other stakeholders help facilitate a better schooling experience for the students and pave the way for a positive future.
The program offers 5 activities to choose from:
- Parkour and Free-Running Class
- Hip Hop Dance Class
- Yoga Class
- MMA Class
- Djing Class
